About US Friends of the IISS
US Friends of the IISS raises awareness and support for the overall work of IISS among the Institute’s US membership and the interested American public at large. Founded in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, the US Friends of IISS aims to increase public awareness of and provide support for IISS programs and activities. The US Friends allows the Institute to raise tax-deductible contributions in the United States to support the full breadth of activities of IISS throughout the world, including the activities of the IISS-Americas. The US Friends can accept tax-deductible gifts from individuals and corporations, as well as foundation grants.

As an independent think tank without an endowment or general support from any government or organization, the IISS must continually raise the financial resources to sustain its independent research and convening activities. The US Friends of IISS is a critical vehicle for extending the Institute’s ability to raise the funds necessary to ensure it maintains its preeminent role as the leading think tank for global security issues.

Why contribute?
The mission of the IISS is to promote the development of sound policies that further global peace and security, and maintain "civilized" international relations. It seeks to provide, from a global perspective, objective information on military and political developments relevant to conflict and high quality analysis of the policies to be pursued by governments and other actors to further international peace and security.

The IISS convenes officials, analysts, business people and journalists to advance understandings of trends that could have an impact on the prospects, course and consequences of conflicts having an important military dimension. It maintains an international network of influential and knowledgeable individuals, corporate entities, governments and other bodies to ensure the effective dissemination of information, analysis and understanding of the subjects and activities addressed by the Institute's work.

Since its founding in 1958, the IISS has been a global leader in promoting sensible policies. The concerns that motivated the Institute's founders in the early nuclear age continue to animate the IISS today. The Institute's independence, multinational make-up and global reach gives it a unique capability to positively shape international relations.

Your donation to the US Friends of the IISS will support grant-making to programs that advance the understanding of the prospects, course and consequences of political-military conflict.
